Priceless (an announcement)

Big announcements have never been my forte. I typically go for the “no one really needs to know” approach, or I try to be all fun and fail miserably. with our first baby I went for the “no one really needs to know” until we were almost 20 weeks along. At one point I had to outright lie to my mom about why I was so incredibly sick while we were home visiting. “Mm-om. Jeez! Don’t you think I’d tell you if I were pregnant??” For what it’s worth, I did tell her, just 10 weeks later…

Our second we had it planned out all cute, with our oldest sporting a homemade “I have a secret” shirt, and “I’m going to be a big brother!” under it. The problem was, we were prepared to share our news right when a family member informed us that it was a good thing we weren’t having another baby yet because we had our hands full with the one as it was. They were a little shocked when our son walked out announcing our news.

The third time we decided to just let our oldest son blurt it out. The problem? No one could understand him and when they finally did no one was sure if he was supposed to let the news slip. It was followed with an awkward, “Oh, wow! (Silence…) Uhhh, I think the football game is on…shall we go check the score?”

Fourth time’s a charm, right? Well, because of my technological lack of expertise, I can’t figure out how to upload the entire cute video. So annoying. Thus you get the first 15 seconds, and then the last. I’ll try uploading it to my facebook page (Catching Crawfish) if you care to watch all one minute and three seconds of my attempt at announcement brilliance.

we are thrilled to be bringing another little crawfish catcher into our home this summer! I hope this 2015 year brings excitement and happiness to your home as well.

I’d love to hear your successful (or not so successful) announcement stories! Tell me how you’ve let the news of big moments in your life out.

  1. Congratulations! Nothing more special. Disappointed I couldn’t get the videos to come through.

    • Thanks, Sheila! I wonder why the videos didn’t work…this technology is really not something I do well at. I wish I could have figured out how to upload the whole thing! The baby will be 10 months old by the time my parents get back. Something that is strange and a little sad. Good thing for Skype!

    • Holding that brand new baby for the first time really is the very best thing. I’m so excited about that part…terrified about the delivering part again. I think I’ve forgot less and less with each child! Thanks so much, Kim!

  3. How exciting. No tips on announcements but I can share that a best friend from college days and his wife brought three amazing boys into the world. When they were contemplating a fourth child, his wife got cold feet. She was truly overwhelmed by the prospect and the possibility of adding a girl to their family. All she knew was testosterone and male gender stuff. In the end they chose to stay with three and what an amazing trio they have become. To this day she still wipes the proverbial sweat from her brow. 🙂 Delightful video montages!

    • Eric, I have to admit I’m not sure whether I’m hoping for a girl this time or if I’m terrified it will actually be a girl! I can relate well to your friend’s wife. All I know is the testosterone and male gender stuff and I’m not really sure what I would do with a girl. Either way I suppose will be what is meant to be. Thank you! 🙂

    • It will be an exciting year for both of us!! I’m 15 weeks along and have felt well (for the most part) the whole time. Did you get sick with Parker? We are so excited, four will definitely be a new adventure! 🙂

      • Oh, Chelsi, I’m so happy for you! So does that put your due date in July or August? I’m glad you are feeling relatively well. Hopefully as you get into the 2nd trimester more, you’ll start feeling better. I didn’t get too sick. I had lots of food aversions, but overall was well. Is this pregnancy different than your others? I have to say, I’m excited for you–I’ll hopefully be following in your footsteps very soon 🙂

        • Parker will be an adorable big brother, and any kids that get to come to your family is so lucky! Now you have me anxiously waiting to hear an exciting announcement from you! 😉 🙂 First week in July is our due date. We just might have an independence day baby. I really can’t tell if this pregnancy is different. In some ways, but then again they’ve all been a little different. I have no “motherly intuition” and have thought we were having a girl every single time. So I’m trying not to do any guessing this time! Thanks, Marla, for sharing in my joy. I can’t wait to share in yours hopefully soon!
